KATHERINE OF ARAGONBORN:16 DECEMBER 1485-DIED 7 JANUARY 1536.MAIN ARTICLE:KATHERINE OF ARAGON WIFE No.1 Katherine of Aragon, was the first of the wives of Henry VIII. They were married shortly after Henry's accession to the throne in 1509. However, before they could marry, a Papal dispensation was obtained to allow the marriage to proceed, as she was the widow of Henry's brother Arthur. Katherine bore Henry six children, three girls and three boys, but only one of them survived infancy, due to miscarriages and stillbirths. Born to Sir Thomas Boleyn and his wife Lady Elizabeth Howard, her birth was more noble than either Jane Seymour or Catherine Parr, two later additions to the Wives of Henry VIII. Resisting all Henry's attempts at seducing her, she refused point blank to follow in her sister Mary's footsteps and become his mistress. It very quickly consumed Henry and he became obsessed with the desire, to obtain an annulment of his marriage to Katherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn Queen Elizabeth 1, made the second of Henry VIII Wives, a most important figure, in both the political and religious upheaval, that started the Protestant Reformation.
